Oskar Gustafsson is a sculptor based in Evja, on the west coast of Sweden. He works primarily in materials such as wood, stone and metal. The bodily experience of making is essential to his practice – learning through the hands, understanding through the properties and limitations of the materials. The process is both intuitive and exploratory, combining traditional craft techniques with more experimental and unconventional methods.

Time and bodily presence is central to his work. He is interested in how materials bear traces of time, and how making – through repetition, resistance and physical effort – can make visible a relationship between body and matter. In his works, the ephemeral and the permanent meet, where the cycles of both nature and the body are allowed to take shape.
